CVA - Airdroppable compactor
The CVA is a compact, air-deployable 4×4 vibratory compactor for airborne engineer units and rapid-entry forces. It can be air-transported, heliborne under slings, or airdropped on LTCO12 platforms (8-ton load). Road-legal, it also fits 20-ft container transport and deploys by road, rail or sea.
Its principal strengths are:
-
Motorized vibratory front drum and driven rear axle for positive traction
-
Articulated chassis steering for precise alignment and tight spaces
-
Hydrostatic CVT with 0–6 km/h working range
-
Dual compaction modes: 0.9 mm @ 25 Hz (medium) / 1.7 mm @ 35 Hz (maximum)
-
Drum 1.37 m wide, Ø 0.99 m, 22 mm shell for stone/aggregate work
-
Up to 30 cm compaction depth in Class C soils (silts, earth)
-
Load-sensing auxiliaries: 45 L/min @ 220 bar (rear quick couplers)
-
100 L fuel tank, ~8 h working autonomy
-
–20 °C to +50 °C operating range
-
Folding rollover frame to 1.90 m for transport constraints
-
Rotating pintle hitch for trailer towing; maintenance-friendly layout
CVA is built around a compact chassis with a hydrostatic driveline. A Caterpillar C4.4 Stage IIIA 100 hp diesel—compatible with F-54, F-63 and jet fuel—drives a Danfoss Series 42 variable-displacement advance pump (41 cc) feeding a POCLAIN MS 1,356 cc fixed-displacement drum motor and a REXROTH A2FM 63 cc fixed-displacement axle motor. Steering is hydraulically assisted via an articulated frame for high manoeuvrability. A fixed-displacement 20 cc equipment pump supplies up to 45 L/min at 220 bar to the rear auxiliary hydraulic outlet. The cab is ergonomic and designed for a fully equipped operator; the folding roll-over frame lowers height to 1.90 m for air/sea/land projection.
Its main missions are:
-
Compact and restore airstrips, aprons and taxiways in early entry
-
Stabilize DZ/LZ staging areas and access routes after clearance
-
Backfill/earthworks compaction for berms, trenches and revetments
-
Foundation layer compaction ahead of matting or resurfacing
-
Support airdrop recovery corridors by rapid surface stabilization
-
Tow support trailers with the rotating pintle hitch
